Eagles

Three baby eaglets where hatched and raised this spring with in viewing distance of our house.

We could hear them squawking when their parents would bring them food. It wasn't long before we would see all five of them out taking flight lessons.

This afternoon I looked out my window and was amazed to see two of them chasing a cotton tail rabbit.

The rabbit was zig zagging thru the snow trying to get away, as the golden eagles where in hot pursuit chasing it down the draw.

The bunny may have escaped. It looked as though the eagles huge wings where making the chase a bit awkward and there are many bunny holes under rocks that he could have scurried into.

Yes, I think that did happen. Now I see one of them sitting on a rock keeping an eye out for any wayward rabbit that may venture out.

Magpie's are flying around hoping the eagle is successful, so they can steal a morsel or two.

In the picture above, you can see the nest in the wall of the cliff, below Heart Mountain.

The Wind

When I was a little girl six years of age, we lived in an apartment in Ketchican Alaska.

There are times that Ketchican gets horrendous winds.

I was in the first grade and very small when one of those winds kicked up. I was trying to walk the few blocks home from school when the gale caught me and was blowing this wisp of a girl towards the on coming traffic in the street. Luckily I was by a pole, so I wrapped my little arms around it and hung on for dear life.

A kindly man named Tom Stack, seeing my peril, rescued me, and took me home to my mother.

Sunday Stills-Color Challenge

Colors- one of my favorite things.
I like to play with colors and put different ones together, warms with cools/ brights with neutrals. I think that is the main reason I like to bead, sew and do creative things.
I just took a picture taking color challenge from Ed @ http://edprescott.wordpress.com/
These are my two favorite shots I took for the color challenge.

6th picture meme

1. Go to your picture folder on your computer or wherever you store your pictures.
2. Go to the 6Th folder, then pick the 6Th picture in that folder.
3. Post that picture on your blog and the story that goes along with the picture.
4. Tag 5 other peoples that you know or don't know to do the same thing and leave a comment on their blog or an email letting them know you chose them.

Fred the rooster decided he has had enough of country life. He headed off to town to strut his stuff on the concrete sidewalks.

It was a little scary walking thru the speeding traffic, dodging cars and mean dogs, but the journey was all worth it, when he stepped into Derves Drug's and up to the soda fountain. A chocolate Italian soda, billowing with whipped cream & sprinkles, just what he had been dreaming about, Heaven on earth!

Then when he thought life could get no better, in walked a beauty of a chick, Anna. She hopped up on the stool beside Fred. They sipped soda's and talked all afternoon.

As the day wore on rooster Fred decided he'd better head home. After all the coyotes and owls come out at night and would love to have a nice chicken dinner.

Fred had lost track of time and was a little late getting down the road. He got stopped at the railroad tracks and impatiently hopped from leg to leg waiting for the cars to be filled with wheat. In the distance he could hear the dinner bell ringing at the farm. By the time Fred arrived at his coup all the corn had been gobbled up by the hungry flock.

Next time Fred don't lallygag so long in town.

Snow Day

We woke up to a snowy day this morning.
We had planned a road trip, but after driving a few miles, finding a semi stalled out in the middle of the highway & hearing strong wind warnings, we decided the trip wasn't necessary and turned around to come home.
It has turned out not to be windy at all, just a beautiful snowy day.
I took a walk and shot allot of winter pictures.

This weird person was following me.

Here is a little bird. They where flitting all around looking for seeds.

The cow's where wearing a blanket of snow on there backs.

Fluffy had fun searching for rabbits.

The snow was drifted up like frosting on a cake.

What a great day for a walk!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is Mom's Birthday & as promised Paula & I are drawing names to see who Win's the Birthday prizes.

And the lucky winner of the stationary set is

Shelby @ http://shelbydupree.blogspot.com/

Happy letter writing Shelby!

Although Mom is gone, she doesn't want us to be sad. How do I know this? After she died, every time I thought about Mom being gone & would start to feel blue, a jaunty little tune would come on the radio. It was set to kind of a Calypso beat & had the line in it "Life goes on" I don't know the song or who sang it, but it just seemed like a message from Mom "Hey, don't be sad, my spirit is still going on"

With that in mind, I was thinking about what I like to smell like. I'm not a perfume person, but I love the scent of coconut & vanilla. It reminds me of sunshine & a tropical vacation.

What favorite scents do you like to wear?

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me

We have a good friend with Lu Garrett's Disease & got a call on New years eve. that his wife Amy had passed away. She was only 50 years old & had a bad stroke last year. I was just at there house two weeks ago & she seemed to be getting better.
We will miss you Amy
This is a poem her aunt recited at her funeral today. I think it is beautiful.
When Tomorrow Starts Without Me
When tomorrow starts without me,
and I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me:
I wish you wouldn't cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too:
But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand.
And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.
But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.
I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had.
If I could relive yesterday,
Just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
And maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realized,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
Would take the place of me.
And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.
But when I walked through heaven's gates
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me
From his great golden thrown,
He said, "this is eternity.
And all I've promised you.
Today your life on Earth is past,
But here life starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day's the same way
There's no longing for the past.
You have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times
You did some things
You knew you shouldn't do.
But you have been forgiven
And now at last you're free.
So won't you come and take my hand
And share my life with me?"
So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.

Birthday Contest

Moms Birthday is coming up.
We lost her quite a few years ago, but she is still so much a part of our lives & always will be.
My sister Paula & I have celebrated her Birthday every year and this year we have decided to do a contest that reflects our wonderful Mother.
Mom got up at 4:30 AM almost every day. She loved being up in the quite peaceful house while the rest of us where snoozing away.
She would make herself a cup of tea and sit in her robe at the big wooden desk Dad made for her, writing.
Mom wrote in her journals every day. Would write letters and send pictures to family & Friends.
She took a few writing courses. We treasure the writing she left behind for us.
I am going to give away a stationary set on Mom's Birthday, January, 9th.
Any one who comments on this post will be entered in the drawing and if you put a link to my blog on yours you will get another entry into the contest.
Hop on over to Paula's blog www.onarainynight.blogspot.com and see what she is giving away.
