New Egg

Isn't this the cutest little egg you have ever seen?
I had to laugh when I reached under the hen this morning and pulled out a tiny little egg.
When a new hen starts laying this is the size of her first egg.
I am always surprised when I find one that is so small.

I remember them from my Grandma's farm. Someday I will have chickens. The sooner the better!

Just right for a light breakfast! I always love the tiny eggs I find shen the new pullets first start laying. I am finding eggs now from the chicks that Tricksie hatched last summer, but I never found any tiny ones from these pullets. One of them is sitting on 3 eggs now. I was taking them from her, but let her keep the ones she had almost a week ago. When I found another nest, I put an old light bulb in the nest to see if the hen would keep laying there instead of hiding the eggs again, and by golly, the light bulb worked. She thinks it is one of her eggs!

That little egg is just too darn cute! Too bad my first baby wasn't that tiny (healthy of coarse!) - he was 8 1/2 lbs!
