Grandma Simmons had rows of huge lilac bush's surrounding her house.
As children we would spend hours playing in these bush's, where we had houses and stores. The green leafs we used as money.
What a wonderful make believe town we had with the heady scent of Lilac flower and many song birds flitting in and out singing there tunes.

Our lilac season came and went earlier this month. Like you, lilacs invoke memories for me. I think of both of my grandmothers, old times, etc... .
Have a wonderful weekend.
In town they are blooming..in the country not just yet..I love the Lilacs and their heady smell:)
They are one of my favorites also, I got a number out of a magazine that you can buy reblooming lilacs. I was thinking of trying that.
You've sold me! I've gotta get some lilac bushes for the farm!!
I found your blog through Connie at Far Side of Fifty's. My brother and husband recently took a trip which included driving through your state. I don't think I've ever seen a blogger from ND and I am so pleased to be enjoying your beautiful blog. Lilacs remind me of my Mother. Thank you for sharing your sweet memories from childhood. Amazing how that fragrance evokes precious thoughts of loved ones.
Here in France, the lilas are already gone, really earlier this year. It's nice to see them on your blog. Lilas are one of my favourites flowers.
I clipped every one that I could reach for the kids last week, but my high up lilacs still look and smell pretty good!
I got it as a sucker from my friend's lilac bush and that makes it extra special to me!!
They're beautiful and evoke the same memories for me. I loved playing in those giant lilac bushes at Grandma's. We have a couple of small lilac bushes and last weekend I bought another to keep in a pot on the deck. I love the smell and the funny thing is, I had comtemplated doing a post on the very thing you just talked about. Just hadn't gotten around to it yet. Great minds think alike. (and sisters to, I suppose!)
